A Statistical / Numerative Supplement
The following information has been compiled because of its
usefulness in helping to gain a better numerical perspective on conditions
referred to in the foregoing text
It adds to information given on the three o.h.p transparencies (p9/10)

death rate is ~ 4 per thousand births.

Typical rates of occurrence for fetal alcohol syndrome and spinabifida respectively are ~0.33 and ~1 case per thousand live births.
In the Barking & Havering Localities between 23 and 37 % of women are smokers ; and up to 11% report drinking more than 15 units of alcohol per week.
